Skittering Lizards and Vocabulary Development

Word of the Day: skitter (on 2-27-2010) The sentence used that day was:
The area was populated by countless tiny lizards that would skitter away when approached.

I just loved that sentence. It reminded me of the anoles in Jamaica and Florida.

Here's a link:

skitter

Here's a YouTube video on anoles:

Remember, the "Word of the Day," box changes every day.

skitter discuss

Definition:(verb) To move rapidly along a surface, usually with frequent light contacts or changes of direction; skip or glide quickly.
Synonyms:scamper, scurry, scuttle
Usage:The area was populated by countless tiny lizards that would skitter away when approached.
This anole is not skittering. It's more of a relaxing, lumbering anole, but, the video is peaceful.

The name of the wetlands I visited today, "Wakodahatchee," is derived from the Seminole Indian Language and translates as "created waters." The created waters at Wakodahatchee Wetlands are fifty acres of unused utilities land transformed into a wetlands ecosystem teeming with plants, birds, and other wildlife.

Plants today:
Arrowhead Sagittaria lancifolia
Sabel palmetto
Cabbage palm
Pickerel weed Pontedeur cordata (?)
Arrow arum
Fire flag
(I'll have to add more soon...I do not have time to add my list tonight.)

Anhinga
Wood storks (7)

Other Animals today:
