Oxytocin May Alleviate Autism SymptomsOxytocin, a hormone believed to foster bonding between mothers and their babies, may also promote social behavior in adults with autism. People with autism often have severe deficits in social interaction and have also been shown to have low oxytocin levels. In a recent study, researchers found that adults with high-functioning autism spectrum disorders who inhaled oxytocin were more likely to make eye contact when viewing pictures of faces and reported feeling connected to people who were nice to them while playing a game.
